Payphone save steps
- Find a payphone and interact with it.
- Select the coin slot and insert one coin.
- Open the address book.
- Select the entry marked for saving.
- Dial the number and press Call.
- Wait for the save interaction to complete before leaving.
The first outdoor payphone appears shortly after the diner opening. Another payphone is available around the Crimson Bear Motel route.
Why the phone does not save automatically
A payphone is the save station, but it still consumes a coin. If the save option is not progressing, check that you inserted a coin before dialing and selected the save entry rather than a story or guest-room contact.
When to spend a coin
Good checkpoints in the current route include:
- before entering a new building with limited healing;
- before experimenting with an unfamiliar keypad;
- after collecting an important weapon or route item;
- before the tunnel encounter.
Coins also interact with other parts of the demo's resource economy, so a save is a tradeoff rather than a free checkpoint. On a first run, protecting meaningful progress is usually worth more than hoarding every coin.
What the developer has said
The June 2026 developer AMA discusses the save design as a deliberate survival-horror system. That explains the intent, but it does not guarantee that the retail implementation will remain identical to the demo.
